Banna Strand under the Milky Way. This was my sec Banna Strand under the Milky Way.

This was my second setup that night, the same evening I photographed Andromeda on February 13th.

Earlier I spent a few hours with the Kerry Astronomy Club observing through a telescope (amazing experience).

By the time we finished, everything was frozen. Cars, telescope, tripod, nights like that also remind me that dew heaters was a very good investment 😁

The sheltered part of the beach was great for telescope viewing, but not for landscape photography. It is surrounded by dunes, so you cannot really see much of the horizon.

So around 11Pm I drove to the main Banna Beach parking area and set up again.

The Milky Way was absolutely amazing!
But there was nothing in the foreground. Just sand and open space.
So I stepped into the frame like a true main character šŸ¤£šŸ˜…

Andromeda Galaxy Captured on Banna beach last Fr Andromeda Galaxy

Captured on Banna beach last Friday 13.Ā February, during a meeting with the Kerry Astronomy Club. We had an amazing clear night under the stars!

What made the night so special for me was Patrick’s huge knowledge and his Sky-Watcher Flextube 300!!

Completely different experience with visual observation than looking at the sky through my camera!

For this photo I was using:
Canon R6 – 60s
Sigma 150–600C at 600mm • f/6.3
ISO 2000
Tracked on Star Adventurer 2i
Stack of only 8 bphotos

Stacked file was edited by me in Photoshop and by my buddy MatijaĀ @komer_ap in PixInsight.

Same data, different results!

<<<<<<<<<<<Now your turn!>>>>>>>>>>>

Comment ā€œAndromedaā€ and I’ll send you the stacked file so you can try editing it yourself!

I’ll post the best edits in my Stories!!
Good luck 😁

That faint glow is called Earthshine.
t's happening becouse sunlight is reflected off Earth’s oceans and clouds and its lighting the Moon’s night side.

Each exposure was stacked individually and then blended in Photoshop! (Pure nightmare šŸ˜…)

Gap of Dunloe Co. Kerry Ireland
Gap of Dunloe under the stars Cold but almost pe Gap of Dunloe under the stars

Cold but almost perfect night under the dark Kerry's skies!

I park my car next to the old Garrison House in the Gap of Dunloe, Orion was rising from the left. I didn’t want to stay on the road, so I went down onto a small lake ā€œbeachā€ beside something like 20 meters away!

Main consure was farmer trucks they are moving sheep's and horses around that time.

And yes, some of my sky frames was completely trashed because some of those trucks haad instantly strong light bars on šŸ˜…šŸ˜…

But that’s just part of shooting in rural places and im fine with it!

What made this night special for me was finally getting the color balance "right" onĀ  borrowed full spectrum Canon 6D (after few failed attempts)

Full spectrum camera is a beast in completley new category to me!

All of the H-alpha signal is there but at the same time everything else is off by significant margin!

I went trough diferent approaches with editing to that "priblem" and finnaly after a lot of trys and errors I ended with this one!

(Yes it's still reddish in some parts but I don't have energy to go trough it anymore šŸ˜…)

For the foreground I come back near my car and made exposures for it with my Canon R6. Reason for camera change was that colour management is far easier with non modified camera!

All the photos are taken with same lenseĀ at 16mm but different full frame bodies!

Sky capture (tracked):
• Canon 6D (full spectrum) @cosmocatchers
• 16–35mm f/4L @ 16mm, f/4
• ISO 1200
• 12 Ɨ 4-minute exposures
• SkyWatcher Star Adventurer 2i
• Lee soft filter @urosfink
• Stacked in DSS, edited in Photoshop

Foreground:
• Canon R6 + 16–35mm f/4L
• 5-minute exposure at f/4
• ISO 2500
• 3 frames (light on / light off inside the house)

Everything blended together in Photoshop

West Cork: A Light in the Darkness There’s a stor West Cork: A Light in the Darkness

There’s a story behind this shot. I went out to West Cork to catch the peek of Leonids meteor shower, batteries charged, memory cards ready, and four cameras with me, my trusted R6, a timelapse 6D, an astro-modified 700D, and very dogy full-spectrum 6D.

When setting up my timelapse 6D I realized I’d cleared all my memory cards and didn’t have Magic Lantern, (intervalometer software I rely on ) and ofcorse no cable release shutter šŸ˜…

But I found some masking tape in the car. I put a small rock on the shutter of my timelapse 6D and taped it down. It worked in some sanse but I need to add more and more type on itšŸ¤£šŸ˜…šŸ¤£ by the morning it was looking like snowman 🤣🤣

I planned to combine the full-spectrum 6D with the R6, but the 6D was too sensitive when connected over Wi-Fi (no magic lantern some amp glow near sensor was triggering screen id say) , and the shots was unusable. In the end, I relied on the astro-modified 700D with Magic Lantern to capture H-alpha signals.

The final image is a combination of 15 Ɨ 5-minute exposures with the 700D and 6 Ɨ 5-minute exposures with the R6 on 16mm F4 . Editing was tricky same lense but 700D have APSC sensor so x 1.6 in total 25.6 mm! I tried different approaches but at the end auto-align in photoshop with stacked images worked the best after I did my workflow for editing!
Ross Castle and the Moonbow Last Thursday, the 1 Ross Castle and the Moonbow

Last Thursday, the 13th of November, the aurora forecast looked promising again. After the the night before on Wednesday I was completely exhausted only 3 hours of sleep in a car but no place to complain!

I check the forcast anyway. It looked like only short window of clear skies between 2–4 AM.
So I set two alarms… one for 1:00 and one for 1:15.
And of course, I turned both off and told myself 5 more minutes!
I woke up an hour later at 2:05.

Instant panic. I jumped out of bed, making enough noise running aroound the house to make my wife very happy!

Finally I come by Ross Castle around 2:30 AM. The northern sky looked clear-ish, but no aurora in sight.

I went to my favourite spot small bridge overlooking the castle, to drink my ā€œmorningā€ coffee and think about decisions in my life šŸ˜… I could be in a bed like any "normal" person but im up to this s*** for absolutly nothing

That’s when I saw around 2:36 something faint… a silky, ghost-like arc stretching from the castle toward the right! One more sip of coffee, another look and it was a full arch.
That’s when it hit me: a Moonbow!!

Panic attack No. 2.
I knew that Moonbows need very specific conditions and usually don’t last long all my gear was still in the bag.

I unpacked fast, set up the tripod, leveled it, and managed to shoot a panorama in that panic i didn't think about composition it was just do it!

I stayed around thinking and blaming myself that i head enough time to do much better....... And im still looking if aurora will apere maybe, it didn't !

About 30 minutes later, a light mist started agein and i was ready to call night over but the clouds near the Moon opened up again, and the moonbow returned.

I just run back to my tripod moved it few meters into the position what i imagine before level up and shoooot !!!!
And here it is In total 9 photos panorama portret orientation at 15mm F2.4 ISO 1250

Interesting thing when i researched a bit that Moonbows usually apere on the full or near the full Moon. This aperence calculated with Photopills was with Moon at 40.7% and elevation 26.18°

So delighted to see this phenomenon!

Still can’t believe I got to see this aurora! This Still can’t believe I got to see this aurora! This morning was absolutely amazing! In my opinion, the strongest one I’ve seen here in Kerry. Way more intense than last year’s spectacle!

Aurora started off very shy, just a soft glow on the horizon, and then it exploded into a monster!!!

About photos: most of them are just single exposures from 8 to 15 seconds, ISO 800-3200, and I included a few panoramas, which were just a single photos stitched together in Lightroom!

It was a long and productive night, no space to complaining 😁😁

Time-lapse is at the end :)
Calm, peaceful, and clear skies over Ross Castle. Calm, peaceful, and clear skies over Ross Castle.

After a long wait, I finally captured one of my desired photos!

This image is a stack of about an hour and a half of continuous shooting.

The bright yellow star just behind the castle is Antares, from the constellation Scorpius.

Fun fact: the ripples in the water were caused by me approaching the camera (camera was on tripod in the lake)
To me, the waves look like the trace of a seismograph reading šŸ˜…šŸ˜…
